Thank you (as of January 06)
All courses are based on the components of the four-year attendance course of The Purton House School of Homeopathy, a college with full recognition of the Society of Homeopaths, located in England . Lectures of actual classes have been recorded and edited to present a live learning medium.
Each year of the attendance course has been divided in to 6 modules. Each module is divided into units and consists of a set of audio CD's and a study manual. Each study manual has been designed to embellish upon the content of the CD's and includes lecture notes and supporting diagrams. In addition to the study manuals, there is an Appendix and Assessment Schedule provided with module one. This document contains details on the assessments and model pieces of course work.
Different courses comprise different numbers of modules, depending upon the level at which you wish to study homeopathy.
There are no time lines for the completion of each module. You work at your own pace at times that suit you.
Introductory
A concise course, a little under two modules, equivalent to about ten-day's worth of lectures of the attendance course.
The course provides a sound introduction to homeopathy and describes how to use core homeopathy texts. The course also looks at some of the major remedies and explores the cornerstones of homeopathic philosophy.
Foundation
Within these six modules, we concentrate on an understanding of the principles of homeopathy as laid out in the Organon by Hahnemann. Some of the major polycrest remedies from the homeopathic materia medica are also introduced. Human anatomy and physiology are taught within the holistic framework fundamental to Purton House. An introductory use of the repertory is also examined. Psychotherapeutic skills are integrated into the course to further understand the nature of health and disease on all levels. This course gives practical advice on the treatment of "acute" or minor illnesses, diet and relaxation.
Studying foundation level will enable the student to help family and friends in acute situations.
Completion of the foundation course enables the student to enter practitioner course via an exam pathway should they wish to take their studies further. Additionally the student could simply continue their studies in the advanced course.
Advanced and Practitioner
These two courses are similar as they both comprise the lectures from the full four years of the attendance course. The fundamental difference between the two is that the advanced course is for interest only and thus has no assessment element or clinical training within it. In other aspects they are the same.
The first six modules are as per the foundation course. Modules seven to twelve go into greater depth in the areas of the materia medica, philosophy, medical science (including pathology), repertory, psychology, case work and practical techniques. An understanding of the ways in which dis-ease progresses and the treatment of "chronic" or more serious illnesses is addressed. Insights are given into case management and a greater emphasis on practitioner training (practitioner course only) is explored. Practitioner training seminars and workshops are a part of the Practitioner course.
Modules thirteen to eighteen extend the knowledge of remedy images, groupings and relationships. Differing methodologies are explored as further insights into case management issues are raised. The uses and the limitations of the repertory are also discussed and an understanding of provings and their importance is looked at. These topics are all accompanied by the continual development of case taking skills and the application of principles observed via workshop training (practitioner course only). This is also the time when students enter apprenticeship with a qualified homeopath.
During the last remaining modules, students continue their journey through medical science and the remedies of the materia medica, whilst looking at more complex issues such as obsessions, phobias, depression, grief and dying. Live cases, video-case workshops and practitioner development continue for students on the practitioner course.
The Practitioner Course is fully assessed on a continual assessment basis. There are no exams. Successful completion of each module and its assessment qualifies one for the next module. Again, students work at their own pace. The only time constraint is that the course needs to be completed within seven years.
In addition to the written assessment students are required to complete the clinical training programme and attend clinical workshops. UK residents will be required to attend this programme at Purton House, located in Buckinghamshire. For international students, details of suitable clinical training locations will be provided if travel to the UK is not feasible.
Throughout the course students are provided with the support of course tutors and will be assigned a mentor with regular access.
The course has been designed to provide students with all the necessary knowledge and expertise for professional practice in homeopathy.
Please note:
Each country has its own laws governing the practise of homeopathy. This course does not automatically qualify you for legal practise in your country of residence. In countries where legislation exists governing who may, and who may not, practise homeopathy you will need to apply for the appropriate registration. Contact your national Department of Health for more information.
For UK residents this course enables you to apply to the registration programme for The Society of Homeopaths, the ARH and the HMA through exam pathways.
Purton House reserves the right to make changes to the course structure and curriculum. For more information, please contact enquiries@purtonhouse.com
