Q: How does homeopathic treatment work?
A: Homeopathy is a holistic form of medicine. It works by treating the whole person rather than the symptoms of the illness, so it fits in well with today's healthy lifestyles. The symptoms that have brought the patient to the clinic will certainly be explored but the homeopath is interested in building a comprehensive picture of the patient. The homeopath will then prescribe a remedy based upon this picture. The philosophy is that this remedy will increase the body's health and immunity, thereby allowing the body to cure itself.
Q: What can homeopathic treatment help with?
A: Because homeopathy does not focus on symptoms but works by improving the body's own health and immunity it can help with almost anything. Whatever you might be suffering from, whether physical, emotional or mental, it is worth contacting a homeopath for an initial discussion.
Q: What is the difference between a homeopathic doctor and a homeopath?
A: Homeopaths in the U.K do not have to be professionally medically trained. Check with the individual homeopath regarding training they have received.
Q: How long is a consultation with a homeopath?
A: In order for a homeopath to obtain a comprehensive picture of the patient's case history an initial consultation generally takes about one and a half hours. Follow up appointments usually commence about one month after the initial consultation and last about 30 - 45 minutes.
Q: How much do appointments cost?
A: The initial one and a half hour consultation costs between £60 - £70.00 depending on which homeopath is seen. Follow ups cost between £30 - £35.00.
Appointments in the student clinic are £35.00, initial, and £20.00, follow up.
Children's clinics: Initial consultations £40.00, Follow ups £30.00.
Q: How much do the remedies cost?
A: The cost of remedies is included within the consultation fee. If a patient rings a homeopath between appointments and a remedy is sent in the post there is a small charge of £3.50.
Q: How often do I see a homeopath?
A: After the initial consultation one month is usually left before the first follow up. This is because remedies work at a very deep level and that amount of time is often needed to see how the remedy might be taking effect.
Q: How long does homeopathic treatment usually last?
A: This often depends on the nature of the patient's case. Somebody with a very chronic illness, such as asthma, may well take some time before real improvements are noticed. Others may well react almost immediately. Typically, once one has had two or three follow ups, the homeopath's objective would be that the patient has responded well to the remedies. From then on one would see their homeopath every six months for a health check up if the patient feels this is necessary.
Q: When can I expect to start seeing results?
A: Some patients will see almost immediate results. Others may need a number of visits before any significant effect is noticed. This will depend very much on the patient and the nature of the illness. It is impossible to say from the outset how quick any one patient will react. Please contact the Centre and we will happily discuss this point further.
Q: Are there any side effects?
A: Homeopathic remedies are given in minute doses. Therefore there are no side effects or any risks of dependency.
Q: Is homeopathy safe for babies and pregnant women?
A: Because of the minute doses used in homeopathic remedies it is perfectly safe for both babies and pregnant women.
Q: Will homeopathy interfere with my medication?
A: Homeopathic remedies will not interfere with any existing medication. However, because of the delicate nature of the remedies, your homeopath may advise you not to take both simultaneously. Please contact the Centre for more details about this point.
Q: Do you offer any discounts for the elderly or people on benefits?
A: Yes we do. For those on benefits, and the elderly, we are very happy to discuss discounts for our treatment to make it affordable. No set fees are in place as each case is assessed individually. We also offer discounts for children and details can be found within the "Clinic" section.
