school introduction

Purton House School of Homeopathy was established in 1985 and is therefore one of the longest established and highly regarded providers of homeopathy education and training in the United Kingdom. ..

Nicky Pool, the founder of the School, has a background in psychiatric nursing and Transpersonal Psychotherapy and the development of the course was interwoven with an emphasis on the psychodynamics of homeopathic practice.

The course was recognised by the Society of Homeopaths in 1994. The School is also listed with the Homeopathic Medical Association and The Alliance of Registered Homeopaths.

Whilst in Slough, class sizes grew rapidly and the School eventually outgrew its original premises by the mid 1990s and relocated to Stokenchurch in Buckinghamshire. With its own purpose-designed premises Purton House was able to develop its facilities for students, offering on-site clinics, meeting rooms and library services. Here the School continued to flourish.

With the expiry of its lease in Stokenchurch Purton House began to consider returning to the more urban location of Slough with its excellent transport links. In accordance with recommendations made in The House of Lord’s Report (2000) the School was also keen to explore a partnership with a university for validation of the course. Thames Valley University already operated a very dynamic Centre for Complementary and Integrated Medicine, led by Professor Nicky Robinson, and was an attractive prospect as a partner for Purton House. The Centre delivers a variety of complementary healthcare courses and has won competitive bids for research funding. Therefore, in September 2005, Purton House moved to the University campus in Slough and the course was successfully validated in July 2006. Purton House now delivers a BSc (Hons) Homeopathy programme and students are eligible to enjoy all the facilities that such a university has to offer.

Purton House teaches Classical Homeopathic skills to practitioner level. Upon successful completion of the course graduates are eligible to register with The Society of Homeopaths. The teaching methods used are designed to facilitate learning of homeopathic theory and the process of becoming a competent practitioner. As such there is a great emphasis on clinical education and skills.
Alongside the Clinical Education program there is further emphasis on Practitioner Development so that graduates are ready to practice, have skills required for life-long learning and a commitment to Continuing Professional Development.
