Classical / non-Classical Homeopathy

Students and patients often ask us the difference between classical and non-classical approaches to homeopathy.

At this College we focus on the teachings of Samuel Hahnemann and his early followers which also refer back to much older medical traditions that state that all aspects of a person are important - the way that they express their emotions, how they relate to events, as well as their purely physical symptoms.

The Classical homeopaths therefore try to find a remedy that addresses all these aspects, rather than isolating one or two of them, because they think that this is the surest and gentlest way to achieve a long-lasting cure. To this end they will give only one remedy at a time. The problem is that some patients may not understand this subtle process and thus not stick with the treatment.

The non-Classical approach so often will endeavour to find a remedy or remedies that will alleviate the most urgent or annoying symptoms first, usually on the physical level - a more one-step-at-a-time approach. The issue here could be that the patient will disappear before a long-lasting cure has been initiated because they feel 'well enough', though still not fully healthy.
